
The Doorways to Civil Construction program in 2011 targets Yr 10 students interested in gaining skills and qualificaitons in the civil construction industry. Students from the Gladstone Region State High Schools go on site at McCosker Contractors Pty. Ltd. each Thursday from 7.30am to 3.00pm. Students are enrolled in a Certificate I in Resource Infrastructure & Operations which is an entry qualification for careers in civil construction and mining industries amongst others.
This program was reviewed in 2011 which is a necessary part of EQIP programs, to ensure the program continues to meet industry expections. Students interested in engaging in the program in the future are encouraged to do work experience and obtain an industry white card prior to applying for the program.
Operational Information
Students remain enrolled at their base school
Yr 10 students attend the program 1 day/week
Students must commit to at least 5 days structured work experience during school vacation time
Students requirements:
White Card : CPCCOHS1A Work Safely in the construction industry (previously known as the Blue Card);
Annual material fee paid to base school;
Uniform shirts, hard hat, safety glasses and steel toe capped boots are supplied by McCosker Contracting.
Uniform pants and belt are purchased by students.
